Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him. | Colossians 2:6

Picture this. Jesus is speaking to a packed house. Nobody else can get in, and it’s likely a little stuffy from all the bodies packed into a small area. There’s this guy with some really great friends who brought him to be healed because he was physically disabled and unable to walk, but they can’t get to Jesus. Determined and desperate, they crash the party by opening the roof up and letting the guy down right in the middle of the action.

Jesus clearly loves the faith of these guys, because he tells the man, “Your sins are forgiven.” Well now the religious gurus are all up in arms, because this Jesus guy just put Himself on God’s level. Sure, He makes a good teacher, but now He’s forgiving sins? Blasphemy!

Jesus knows what they’re thinking and decides to up the ante. He looks at these “gurus” and says, “Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven’; or to say, ‘Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk’? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the paralytic, “I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home.”

Now, imagine for a minute if we had an alternate ending to this story. Try to imagine the guy who was just forgiven AND given the ability to walk, asking his buddies to take him back home on his pallet. Jesus just gave this guy fresh legs and a clean slate. How much sense would it make for him to say, “Well Jesus, it’s been a long day. If these guys will carry me home tonight I’ll start trying to walk tomorrow.”

No, it says the guy got up immediately and went out in the sight of everyone so that they were all amazed and glorifying God. In the same way, we who are in Christ have been given a clean slate and fresh legs and are called to walk in Him. We have been raised from the dead with Christ so that we may “walk in newness of life.”

Samuel Ward said, “It is not enough to be healed of your disease, unless you also take up your bed and walk.” God has done so much through the life of this church, and He is not done yet. All of us in Christ have a story of what He’s done in our lives. It only makes sense to pick up our pallets and walk so that those around us will see our testimonies, be amazed, and glorify God. Listen to Paul’s charge one more time:

Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him. | Colossians 2:6

Monday Prayer Points

Legacy Campaign

  • Review Hillside’s Mission Statement and Vision Statement below. Pray that people at Hillside will see how the Legacy Campaign and building this children’s building and paying our debt down accomplishes our Mission and Vision Statements:

Hillside Mission Statement – “To help people discover who Jesus really is and become just like Him.”

Hillside Vision Statement – “To be a church where every person has an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ that leads to Eternal Living Now, so that God’s will and ways are carried out in our everyday lives, our community, and the world.”

  • Pray for people to be involved in our 21 Days of Prayer and our 24 Hour Day of Prayer and Fasting to seek God for how He would want them to respond to the Legacy Campaign.
  • Pray as we provide every week to every group at Hillside lessons/discussion items related to the Legacy Campaign and Pete’s sermons. Pray for God’s Spirit to lead in the discussion around the campaign.
