Discussion & Practice
Read Romans 6:1-14.
-
Understanding Baptism: What does Paul mean when he says we are "baptized into Christ Jesus" and "baptized into his death"? And How should this symbolism impact the behavior and mindset of a believer?
-
Eternal Living Now (Verses 5-10): Paul explains that if we are united with Christ in his death, we will also be united with him in his resurrection. What does it mean to live as someone resurrected in Christ in today's world––to walk in newness of life?
-
Sin’s Power Broken (Verse 6): Paul talks about our old self being crucified with Christ so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with. How does understanding this change how you deal with temptation and sin?
-
Instruments of Righteousness (Verses 12-13): How can we practically offer every part of ourselves to God as instruments of righteousness? What challenges do you face in doing this?
-
Old Self vs. New Self: How does the concept of dying to our old self and being reborn help us understand our transformation in Christ? Can you share a personal experience where you felt you had to let go of part of your old self to embrace this new life?
Practice: Living as Instruments of Righteousness. This week, focus on one aspect of your life (e.g., family, work, relationships, habits) to consciously dedicate to God as an "instrument of righteousness." This involves being intentional about making choices that reflect God's righteousness in that aspect. At the end of the week, reconvene to share experiences and insights gained from this practice.
